IRON MOUNTAIN - The family of missing Iron Mountain man Eric Matthew Volp has organized a memorial Mass today at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Crystal Falls.
"We believe that Eric is no longer with us," said Volp's aunt, Maria Volp of Iron Mountain. "Really, this Mass will be like his funeral Mass."
Although the family has no legal authority to declare Volp dead, Maria Volp hopes that his friends and family will attend the ceremony to remember his life.
Iron Mountain Police Chief Pete Flaminio said that his department does not deal with declaring deaths, and believes that the court has to be involved.
Volp disappeared Oct. 11 from the North side of Iron Mountain.
He is insulin dependent and has not had his medication.
Both police- and civilian-led search parties have failed to find any trace of him.
Flaminio confirmed that the department conducted an aerial search for Volp on Wednesday, concentrating on the Iron Mountain-Kingsford area. The aerial searchers also failed to find any clues.
Volp was born May 28, 1980 in Milwaukee to Steven and Diane Volp. At the time of his disappearance, he was employed at Little Caesar's Pizza.
