MARQUETTE - Two pumpers from the Marquette Fire Department were dispatched to 1135 Jefferson St. at 7:55 p.m. Monday when a fire in leaves and brush piled at the side of the street was discovered. The fire crews put out the fire and reported no damage.

ISHPEMING - The NICE School district will purchase three new school buses, including the district's first diesel-powered bus, for the 1978-79 school year. The board of education Monday night approved a recommendation to seek bids for the new buses.

MARQUETTE - Marquette experienced it first blast of winter over the weekend, when snowfall and low temperatures were general throughout the Upper Peninsula, but the U.S. Weather bureau predicted a slight "warming up" tonight and tomorrow. Yesterday was the coldest day of the season in Marquette and the minimum temperature was within one degree of equalling the all-time record of 25 degrees, recorded in 1930.

ISHPEMING - Allan Trombley, High street, accompanied his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. George LaRue, and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Raymond, Munising, to Chicago over the weekend.

Albert Quaal, a member of the Ishpeming high school football team, suffered a fractured ankle in practice Thursday night. He was a patient in the Ishpeming hospital for two days and is now at home.
