58 homes flooded in Livingston County

POSTED: September 19, 2008

HAMBURG TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Officials report that 58 homes near one Livingston County lake have flood damage.

Heavy rains that included remnants of Hurricane Ike have caused flooding in wide areas of the state beginning last weekend.

The Livingston County Daily Press & Argus in Howell says a survey found water inundated the crawl spaces of 58 of 159 homes near Ore Lake in Hamburg Township, about 40 miles west of Detroit. It's part of the flooded Huron River system.

The American Red Cross says flooding Sunday near a branch of the Shiawassee River caused at least $300,000 damage to its Livingston County offices in Howell.

The Saginaw News says Saginaw's wastewater system dumped 179 million gallons of untreated sewage into the Saginaw River.
