ISHPEMING - Virginia Lorraine Barbiere, 88, formerly of 111 Bluff St., Ishpeming, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at the Mather Nursing Center under the loving care of her family and U.P. Home Health & Hospice.
Virginia was born October 30, 1919, in Ishpeming to Arthur and Selma (Hansen) Carlson. She graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1937. Virginia enjoyed playing cards, cribbage, reading, word-search puzzles, and spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren.
Virginia is survived by 2 children, Connie (David) Vial of Ishpeming and Philip (Sally) Barbiere of Menasha, Wis.; 7 grandchildren, Marci Saari of Negaunee, Christy (Jay) Blewett of Ishpeming, Cory (Paula) Vial of Ishpeming, Katie Vial of Ishpeming, Mark Barbiere of Appleton, Angela Barbiere of Appleton and Todd (Chanin) Barbiere of Appleton; 12 great-grandchildren, Ronald, Alyssa and Hailee Saari, Taylor, Bryce, Morgan and Shae Blewett, Chandler and Averie Vial, Hannah Barbiere, and Mason and Alexis Miller; a sister-in-law, Myrtle Carlson, and brother-in-law, Donald Beer, both of Ishpeming; along with several nieces and nephews. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Bruno; 3 children, Francis K. Barbiere, John Barbiere and Kathleen Barbiere; a grandson, Brock Barbiere; 2 brothers, Carl and Paul Carlson; and 2 sisters, Helen Leone and Doris Beer.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2008, at the Good News Assembly of God Church in Ishpeming with Pastor John Roy officiating. A luncheon will be held in the church fellowship hall following the service.
