The Mining Journal

Above and below, cars maneuver through high waters on U.S. 41 near Hickory Street in Ishpeming Thursday during a storm. Tom Green, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service station in Negaunee Township, reported a record 1.2 inches of rain fell Thursday at the station. He said the previous record for Thursday's date was set in 1963 when .76 inches fell. Green said a warm front moved across the area Thursday, generating lightning and thunderstorms. Champion reported .84 inches of rain Thursday and Watton reported 1.7 inches. (Journal photo by Julia Woehrer)
