Girl, 16, killed in car accident

SAULT STE MARIE - A 16-year-old Chippewa County girl was killed in a car accident early Saturday morning.

Troopers from the Sault Ste. Marie post of the Michigan State Police continue to investigate the crash, which happened in the early morning hours of Saturday on Tower Road in Bay Mills Township.

The girl was driving westbound on Tower Road when her vehicle left the roadway and struck a group of trees, police said. She was wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, police said.

The girl, who is from the Sault Ste. Marie area, is not being identified further by police because she is a juvenile.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact the Sault Ste. Marie post at 632-2216.

Also assisting at the scene were the Chippewa County Sheriff's Department, the Bay Mills Police Department, Superior Fire, Bay Mills Fire and Bay Mills Emergency Connection.
