Wilfred ‘Auty’ Matson

CALUMET — Wilfred “Auty” Matson, age 63, formerly of Calumet, died on Sunday, June 15, 2008, at Marquette General Hospital after a lengthy illness, surrounded by many members of his family.
Auty was born on May 14, 1945, in Lake Linden, son of Wilfred and Gladys Matson.
Auty was a member of the National Guard Army Reserves at the Calumet Post and worked for the Peninsula Gas Company for 19 years. He later moved to Ishpeming, where he worked in the construction field with his brother John.
Surviving are his son, Robert, and grandchildren, Samantha and Max of Kingsford; grandchildren, Dayne Matson, Cody Riutta and Stephen Caspary; brothers and sisters, Evelyn (Cy) Laurent of Minnesota, Sandra (Dennis) Barrette of Dollar Bay, Carol Matson of Lake Linden, Dorothy Holzberger of Mason, Louise (Robert) Parolini of South Range, Lucy Matson of Lake Linden, John (Karen) Matson of Ishpeming, William “Tim” (Kathy) Matson of Tamarack City, Paul Matson of Mason and Donna (Michael) Fountaine of Tamarack City; aunts, Lillian Matson of Hubbell, Lorraine Darcy of Tamarack City and Jeanette (Thomas) Corrigan of Bootjack; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Auty was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James; sister, Betty; and son, Gregory.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden with Fr. Wayne Marcotte to officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home for an hour before the service.
