MANISTIQUE — Two Manistique Township residents were injured Sunday when their house was consumed by fire.
At 11:16 p.m., Manistique Public Safety and Volunteer Fire Officers were called to a structure fire at 5730 U.S.-2 in Manistique Township. The owners of the home had escaped the blaze, but were injured, according to officers with the Manistique Public Safety Department.
David and Dixie Anderson, ages unavailable, were taken to Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital in Manistique by Manistique Public Safety Ambulance.
Dixie Anderson was later transported to Marquette General Hospital in Marquette and David Anderson was transferred to St. Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee for additional treatment.
Dixie Anderson was listed in critical condition this morning at Marquette General, according to a hospital spokeswoman. No updated condition report on David Anderson was available as of press time today.
The home, which received heavy fire damage and is reportedly a total loss, was occupied by the Andersons and their grandson Michael, 16. No injuries to the grandson were reported by police.
Firefighters fought the fire and had it under control after 20 minutes. But crews remained on the scene for about two hours, putting out hot spots and conducting mop-up operations.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation.
