Walker receives honor from American Bar Association

According to a press release the award is “... bestowed on a prosecutor who embodies the principles enunciated in the ABA Criminal Justice Standards,” particularly that “... the duty of the prosecutor is to seek justice, not merely to convict.”
In bestowing the award, the ABA said that as a prosecutor Walker exemplifies the prosecutor’s obligation to protect the innocent as well as to convict the guilty, guarding the rights of the accused as well as enforcing the rights of the public and an unwavering commitment to legal and ethical standards.
Walker will be honored at a reception Aug. 8 at the ABA’s annual convention in New York City.
Walker previously has been recognized with other honors and appointments. He was appointed by fomer Gov. Jim Blanchard to the State of Michigan’s Community Correction Board and by Gov. Jennifer Granholm to the Michigan Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee, on which he still serves. The Michigan Supreme Court appointed Walker to serve on its Committee on Rules of Criminal Procedure and its Task Force on Racial Ethics issues in the courts. He also was appointed by the Court to the Michigan State Bar Commission, the governing body of the Bar. He was appointed to serve as a special Assistant United States Attorney for the Upper Peninsula. He is a past president of the Michigan Prosecutor’s Association and current member of its Board of Directors. He serves on the Board of Directors of the National District Attorney’s Association as a vice-president.
