GHS’s Atkins takes 400
IRON MOUNTAIN — Iron Mountain’s girls finally got the better of Kingsford and the Flivvers’ Josh Droese expanded his skills in a quad high school track meet at Mountaineer Stadium here Monday.
Coach Rex Terwilliger’s Mountaineers, second to Coach Lisa Harry’s Flivvers in the Kingsford Invitational and MHSAA Division 1 regional, gained the upper hand by sweeping the relays including a school-record breaking performance in the 400.
Iron Mountain posted 115.5 points to 96 for Kingsford. Gwinn was third with 33.5.
Gwinn’s Megan Atkins won the 400 with a time of 1:00.60.
Coach Chris Hofer’s Flivver boys turned back Coach Dale Powell’s Mountaineers 113-93, with Norway third with 32 and Gwinn fourth with 18.
Droese put up four firsts again, but this time threw the shot put in exchange for the 400. He also prevailed in 200 plus legs of the 400 and 1600 relays.
Gwinn’s Kyle Robertson won the discus with a throw of 120-4.
