Drowned angler found in U.P. lake
ONTONAGON — The body of an Ewen fisherman, missing since Thursday, has been found in Lake Gogebic.
According to a press release from the Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Office, the Michigan State Police Underwater Recovery Team located the body of Louis Valetti, 69, in Bergland Bay of Lake Gogebic at 10 a.m. Sunday.
The accident was reported at 9:45 p.m. Thursday. Two people were in a boat when one of them fell out and did not surface, police said.
The accident remains under investigation.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Wakefield post of the MSP, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office, Beacon and Sonco Ambulance, Marenisco and Bergland Fire Department, American Red Cross, the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement and the Headwaters Search and Rescue Dog Unit.
