MARQUETTE — Off your rocker? If the answer is yes, John Jasinski and Jeff Menzel may be able to help. In a small Third Street shop here, the twosome is attempting to recapture a somewhat lost art by making hand-crafted rocking chairs, and so far are meeting with moderate success.


Robert Hanson, an instructor in the Department of Criminal Justice at Northern Michigan University, has been named director of training. In his new post, Hanson will coordinate programs at NMU’s Regional Criminal Justice Training Center and Basic Police School.


James A. Baker, executive chef there since October of 1977, has been named chef de cuisine at the Ramada Inn, 412 W. Washington St., Marquette. He is in charge of all food prepared at the inn’s Settlers dining room and banquet facilities. A native of Marquette, Baker is a 1974 graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, N.Y., and has received several awards for his cooking excellence. He also was pictured on the cover of “Cooking for Profit.”


ISHPEMING — The new officers have been elected for the Lake Superior C.B. Radio Club. Those elected were Charles Kent, president; Mert Letson, vice president; Pat McKay, treasurer; Carol Johns, secretary, and John Irish, sergeant at arms.

ISHPEMING — Although Ishpeming boys have been playing marbles for several days, yesterday was the first day on which they brought out their balls and bats. Youngsters could be seen playing ball on almost every dry piece of ground in the city.


NEGAUNEE — Members of the Ishpeming Advancement association, an organization of leading businessmen, have taken up with Negaunee city officials the matter of providing bathing facilities for the people of Negaunee and Ishpeming at Cedar Lake, better known here as Second Lake.
