Eagle Scouts take part in project

November 29, 2007
The Mining Journal
Eagle Scout candidate Chuck Johnson selected a clean-up of public forest land for his Eagle Service Project and recently a crew of fellow Scouts from Troop 309 of Marquette, along with troop leaders and parents, participated in the project, which took place in Forsyth Township south of K.I. Sawyer. From left are Scoutmaster Al Feldhuser, Max Winkler, Andrew Virch, Chuck Johnson, Andrew Jennings and Grant Rydholm. Not pictured is Mark Johnson. The crew collected and disposed of more than a ton of discarded furniture, appliances, tires, and assorted rubbish and debris. An additional quarter ton of metal was sorted and recycled. Used oil was also recovered and will be reused. County Operations at Sawyer provided equipment and the Marquette County Forestry Commission covered material disposal costs.
