Patton top-selling boy scout

November 19, 2007
The Mining Journal
Sam Patton of Boy Scout Troop 321 in Ishpeming was the top-selling Scout in Marquette and Alger counties and is among nearly 1,300 Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts who are busy delivering 4,500 cases of Trails End Popcorn after the record-breaking sale held recently across the Upper Peninsula. The sale proceeds increased by 11 percent to $318,346. According to Barb Dupras, popcorn sale chairwoman for the Hiawathaland Council, more than 70 percent of the income goes to support Scouting programs in the Upper Peninsula, including basic pack and troop expenses such as awards and activities like the Cub Scout Pinewood Derby, and is also used for the boys’ costs for the outdoor programs like Cub Scout Day Camp or Boy Scout Summer Camp. The sale also provides 25 percent of the cost of council programs, services and maintenance of Camp Hiawatha.
