Sands millage, trustees decided
MARQUETTE — Darlene Walch and Joe Wixtrom were elected to the Sands Township Board as trustees. Incumbent Walch, a Democrat, got 587 votes while newcomer Wixtrom, a Republican, got 570 votes. Falling short was Democratic challenger Randy Yelle, with 556 votes, and Republican challenger Benjamin Clarence Yelle, with 460 votes. The Sands Township sanitation millage was passed with 792 votes for and 397 votes against. The millage is one mill — $1 on each $1,000 of taxable value — for a period of 10 years, ending in 2017. The millage will generate about $58,687 in its first year and will be used for sanitation operation, disposal and equipment expenses.

MARQUETTE — Marquette, meet your new commissioners. Fred Stonehouse, Don Ryan and Robert Niemi won seats on the Marquette City Commission following Tuesday’s election.
Stonehouse received 3,975 votes, Ryan 3,914 and Niemi 3,692.
Ishpeming Township trustees, millage set
ISHPEMING — A road millage in Ishpeming Township passed in Tuesday’s election, with 1,059 “yes” votes and 736 “no” votes. A total of 1,795 votes were cast on the issue.

MARQUETTE — Marquette County Prosecutor Gary Walker has four more years to add to his 3¢ decades in the office.
The post was contested in a close race by incumbent Democrat Walker and independent candidate Cathy Church.
Humboldt Township trustees elected
HUMBOLDT — Humboldt township voters picked Democrats Marline Worth and Jacqueline Koski to fill two trustee positions on the Humboldt Township board in Tuesday’s election.

MARQUETTE — Jennifer Mazzuchi will take the bench as a new Marquette County Circuit Court judge in January.
The seat was contested by Negaunee attorney Kevin Koch and Mazzuchi, an assistant prosecuting attorney.
