Elks lose, win

The Ishpeming Concrete Iron Range Squirt hockey team captured the 20th Annual Holiday Invitational championship at Marquette’s Lakeview Arena on Dec. 14. The team went 6-0 during the tournament. MARQUETTE — Sunday afternoon in Marquette, the Marquette Elks Squirt B hockey team lost a 9-6 decision with Ecanaba Northern Michigan Bank. Alister Henderson scored four goals for Marquette, with Nate Bordson and Colin Gaffney adding single tallies. Alec Gadzinski, Michael Hubbard and Rory Hubbard recorded two assists apiece, while Bordson and Gardner Bess posted single helpers. Jordan Kivi stopped 15 shots in goal for the Elks, with Wesley Copeman grabbing the Spark Plug Player of the Game nod. Jacob Strom notched four goals for Escanaba. Also Sunday, the Elks defeated the Police Cadets 11-1 in mid-season playoff action behind four goals apiece by Gaffney and Henderson. Bordson added two markers, while Gadzinski contributed one. Collecting helpers were Bordson (3), Gadzinski, Henderson and Michael Buchl. Kivi came up with six saves in goal, while Cassidy Kamrada earned the Spark Plug of the Game nod. Matthew Stanchina lit the lamp for the Cadets.
