Trucking decision upheld
MARQUETTE — Genesee and Division streets have been quieter since the Marquette City Commission restricted truck traffic on those streets in September of 2007. A recent judge’s ruling will likely keep things that way. In a decision received by the city of Marquette this week, 25th Circuit Court Judge Thomas Solka dismissed L. Blondeau and Sons Trucking’s lawsuit against the city. The trucking company sued the city in 2007 over the city’s south Marquette truck traffic ordinance that banned trucks over 10,000 pounds from traveling Genesee, Division and Grove streets. “It’s been really nice — quieter. The dust isn’t in the windows,” said Sharon Van Wormer, who lives on Genesee Street. “I feel bad for the company, I really do ... but they have another route to go so I’m glad of that. I don’t think it’s going to financially hurt them and people in the neighborhood can have some peace.
