MacGregor wins award

MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University senior Clair MacGregor is the winner of the 2008 Martha Griffiths Award presented by the American Association of University Women Marquette Branch.
Given annually to a graduating senior at NMU, the Martha Griffiths Award is named in honor of one of Michigan’s most influential women legislators in the last half of the 20th century.
Griffiths was known for her efforts in the Civil Rights Act and for getting the Equal Rights Amendment to the House floor for a vote in 1970.
MacGregor, a double major in Spanish and political science graduating from Northern Michigan University this month, was nominated by Susan Goodrich and Amy Orf of the Modern Languages & Literature Department at NMU.
MacGregor was a U.S. State Department Gilman Scholar in 2006-07, traveling and studying in both Brazil and Argentina.
Playgroup held at ICL
The Alger Marquette Community Action Board held a Male Involvement Playgroup at the Ishpeming Country Lanes on April 19. Twenty significant males and 25 children participated in the activity.
