K.I. teachers receive grants
Teachers at K.I. Sawyer Elementary recently received two grants to help enhance teaching and learning for students. From left, Connie Usher, Lori Woodring, Marci Paulsen, Sandy Longhini and Tricia Miilu received an Excellence in Education Professional Development Award and a Teacher Service Mini-Grant to support a greenhouse and technology project. The teachers will use the grant funds for constructing a greenhouse on school property. Each grade level from third to sixth grade will undertake certain responsibilities for the care and the upkeep of the greenhouse. Students will research Michigan wildflowers that are native to this area and plant them from seeds. In the spring, every grade will be given the opportunity to plant these flowers on school grounds with informative signs for that particular wildflower.
