Saturday morning bracketology for 3/17/12
March 17, 2012 - Matt Wellens
Less than 24 hours from now, the NCAA tournament picture should be crystal clear.
However, seven games remain to be played Saturday that could greatly shape the NCAA field.
Here are the 12 teams I have as a lock for the NCAA tourney:
Here are your five bubble teams:
These three teams are still alive, but need to win their conference tourney to get in on Sunday:
Now, not taking into consideration the seven games yet to be played, here is how the NCAA tournament field would look if the season ended today.
Northeast Regional (Worcester, Mass.) — 1. Boston College vs. 15. Michigan State; 8. Denver vs. 9. Miami.
West Regional (St. Paul, Minn.) — 4. North Dakota vs. 13. Cornell; 6. Maine vs. 11. Minnesota.
Midwest Regional (Green Bay, Wis.) — 2. Michigan vs. 16. Air Force; 7. Minnesota-Duluth vs. 10. Boston University.
East Regional (Bridgeport, Conn.) — 3. Union vs. 14. Western Michigan; 5. Ferris State vs. 12. UMass-Lowell.
Notes: Michigan State and Air Force were flipped to break up an intraconference CCHA matchup between Michigan and Michigan State. ... Ferris State was originally placed in St. Paul and Maine in Bridgeport, but the two were flipped to break up an intraconference Hockey East matchup between Main and UMass-Lowell, creating natural 5-12 and 6-11 matchups. ... No. 11 Minnesota is automatically placed in St. Paul as the host of the West Regional.
