In short: 49855

I was having an existential crisis yesterday.

I knew, at some point, I lived at the zip code 48823. I just couldn't remember if that was my childhood home of east Detroit or my college town of East Lansing. For awhile, I wasn't quite sure where I was from.

Google maps helped. 48823, East Lansing. 48224, east Detroit. Easy to confuse. WHEW. Crisis averted. But I'm still not quite sure where I'm from.

I've lived in Detroit (city), northwest Michigan (Manton, to be exact), Green Bay (briefly), the U.P. (part 1), East Lansing and now the U.P. (part 2). While I may not always know where I'm from, at least I can offer you the best directions for how to get there.

Sportswise, I love Deee-troit basketball, Detroit baseball and Tom Izzo's Spartans. Probably some other things, but none that could possibly matter all that much.

I have some prior blogging experience, as my hobby, Mack Avenue Tigers, has been printed in Sports Illustrated and has links routinely featured on SI's Tigers web site.

But, as only my cat -– and possibly your dog –- finds me all that interesting, and that only when begging for food, I promise you this blog will be more relevant from this point on and have almost absolutely nothing to do with me.

What it will have to do with is you, the teams you play for and the teams you follow. Sure, it will have my thoughts, but I hope it has your thoughts, too. Lord knows, I'm not always right. I want to get your takes on the local sports scene and see where I could be wrong.

So don't be a stranger about commenting. Just try to keep it clean for our younger readers out there.

I'll post some bits of interviews I can't fit into stories or additional information not found in the sports section, too, more analysis than fits in the paper, columns I meant to write, and some more interactive stuff, too, so check in frequently for that.

Remember, every sport begins with a game, as Richard Ford wrote this week in NY Times’ Play Magazine. And games are fun. So let's keep it that way around here.

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to meeting you at the court, rink, or my snow bank, if you're dragging a shovel with you.

I'm from a lot of places, but this is the one I call home now.

You rock Kurt! I am glad there is another blogger on the site. I was feeling lonely. I never have time to write. I am sure you have some great stories to share. Cee Ya Round! ;)
