Hoops rankings 1/29

Sorry, a day late. I had Monday off!

Boys ABC rankings

1. Negaunee -- Negaunee was given a legitimate scare by Gwinn, I hear. Did they leave a ding in the Miners’ armor? Probably not.
2. Marquette -- Yes, they lost to Menominee Thursday. But they also beat Menominee earlier in the season while shorthanded. Both teams won on their home courts, so I’m calling it a wash. ...
2. Menominee -- Yes, I know having two teams ranked second is technically cheating, but I’ll call the two teams even given the happenings this season.
4. Escanaba -- After the week off (due to weather) the Eskymos bounced back with a pair of victories.
5. Houghton -- Dominated Ishpeming. Didn’t dominate Calumet. I think they have a good shot at the regional finals anyway.

Girls ABC rankings

1. Westwood -- The girls equivalent of the Miners, almost certain to be heading downstate for the quarters.
2. Houghton -- Beat L’Anse soundly. Shouldn’t really be challenged.
3. Kingsford -- Beat Houghton. But a few too many losses to surpass them i the rankings.
4. L’Anse -- Can beat most teams. Still haven’t a tough schedule outside the Gremlins.
5. Marquette -- They have 5 losses. Allow me to list them: Houghton, Westwood, Westwood, TC Central, TC West. Most teams in the UP aren’t going to do much better against that schedule.
