Nordic skiing’s Soderman named NMU Male Athlete of the Year for second-straight year

MARQUETTE — The Northern Michigan University athletic department held its annual Student-Athletes Award Banquet on Saturday night not only to honor its four new hall of fame inductees, but to hand out some hardware to the current class of ’Cats as well.

Junior Erik Soderman of the Nordic ski team was named Male Athlete of the Year for the second-straight year after finishing the season as a three-time All-American. Two-time All-American diver Molly Kearney was named the Female Athlete of the Year.

Male Athlete of the Year: Junior Erik Soderman, men’s Nordic skiing

Female Athlete of the Year: Molly Kearney, women’s swimming and diving

Coach of the Year: Heidi Voight, women’s swimming and diving

Humanitarian of the Year: Senior Becky Fiorenza, women’s soccer

Gildo Canale Male Senior Award: Senior Zach Anderson, football
