Karr gives update on NMU men’s basketball coaching search

April 12, 2013 - Matt Wellens

MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University athletic director Forrest Karr gave an update via email this afternoon on the men’s basketball head coaching search, which has moved on from its initial phase of accepting applicants.

NMU has trimmed down the initial pool of 98 qualified candidates to 16, which according to Karr, includes two NCAA Division II head coaches, five Div. II associate/assistant coaches, six Div. I assistant coaches and two junior college head coaches.

Of the six Div. I assistants, two have previous experience as Div. II head coaches.

No names of the candidates have been released at this time.

NMU will conduct interviews with the 16 candidates over the next two weeks with on-campus interviews with the finalists tentatively scheduled for the week of April 29-May 3.

Karr said he would like the have the finalists on campus by then so current members of the men’s basketball team can meet the finalists.

Editor's note: Post updated to reflect NMU received 98 applications from persons who met the minimum requirements for the position.
