Cilff averted: In Dantonio I trustMy Spartans are going bowling. And it's probably not the Motor City Bowl, though beggers can't be choosers at this point. I'll take any December football I can get for MSU.Unless you are a State grad or live wit h a State grad, or maybe you are or know a longtime follower, you can't imagine how happy we are with our football team right now, and especially with MSU coach Mark Dantonio. I was starting to wonder if there'd ever be reason for faith again. And suddenly, there is. In the past, the Spartans looked promising and then went cliff diving, as I wrote two weeks ago. This year, I look at the midseason losses and think we're better off for them. Maybe that sounds backwards, but I'm a believer in character. For Sparty to start off promising, take a typical midseason swoon, then level out with victories over Purdue on the road and Penn State at home shows character. It shows me the program wants to define itself anew. It says "Those teams in the past are not us. We will not follow their path to failure." The players bought into it. As an alum, I'm buying into it. In Dantonio I trust.
