NMU football gameday guide: Does the city of Columbus, Ohio know Ohio Dominican exists?

September 15, 2012 - Matt Wellens

Welcome to Week 3 of the Northern Michigan University 2012 football season. Today the Wildcats are at Ohio Dominican, who was picked to finish second in the GLIAC South Division.

Here’s your weekly helping of gameday links, that should get you through this afternoon’s game, especially if you are not in the lovely state of Ohio like me.

I’ll be following the game from Marquette via the World Wide Web. Follow me on Twitter to interact throughout the game.

This week in The Mining Journal, I featured the

Wildcats’ new travel plans for road trips over 10 hours. It should create a much fresher team having been in Columbus, Ohio for over 24 hours.

Northern Michigan’s game notes can be found here.

With freshman running back Keon Collier out for the season with a broken leg, sophomore Reggie Bowden is listed as the No. 2 running back on the depth chart behind senior Prince Young. Sophomore linebacker Wyatt Jurasin took some snaps at running back on Tuesday during practice, but he’s still listed behind senior Eddie Knoblock at linebacker. I’m curious to see if this experiment will carry over into gameday.

The Ohio Dominican game notes are located here.

Fun fact I gathered from the ODU game notes, six coaches on the Panthers’ staff either played of coached for The Ohio State Buckeyes. Head coach Bill Conley spent 17 seasons as an assistant at tOSU. I’m sure in Ohio that is a great connection to have, but to the rest of the GLIAC in Michigan, I’m guessing this is a negative.

You can listen to this afternoon’s broadcast of the game by 100.3 FM The Point game online via WNMU Radio’s website.

Ohio Dominican offers a free online video stream of this afternoon’s game using UStream. It can’t be any worse than Findlay’s video feed ... I hope.

I’d share you stories from the local media that cover Ohio Dominican University football, but I can’t find any local media in Columbus who cover ODU football, even on the GLIAC list of media that cover the league.

So much for all that GLIAC exposure in the big city.

As for fun facts about ODU, I have none because I can’t seem to associate any beer with the schools. The Panthers do list Colorado Rockies pitcher Jonathan Sanchez in its short list of notable alumni, however, so they have that going for them, which is nice.
