8/12/12 NMU football training camp report
August 12, 2012 - Matt Wellens
The Northern Michigan University football team held its fourth practice of the season on Sunday afternoon outside the Superior Dome, with the weather slowly turning more August like, at least for the Upper Peninsula. Here are some notes from today's practice:
NMU Football Training Camp Report for Sunday, Aug. 12
— Redshirt freshman quarterback Ryan Morley continues to work with the No. 1 offensive unit and the weapons that come with it. Head coach Chris Ostrowsky has yet to publicly name a starter, however, it appears the job is Morley’s to lose.
— If Morley can win the starting role over senior Cody Scepaniak, he could find himself working with a pair of freshman running backs, as well as senior Prince Young. Lance Smith out of West Orange, New Jersey, and Keon Collier out of Franklin, Mich., have both been getting significant reps with the ones. Smith had the play of the day during a red zone drill, scooping up a ball thrown by Morley as it grazed the grass of the goal line for a TD.
— On the injury front: Senior linebacker Eddie Knoblock and junior running back Casey Cotta were held out for precautionary measures.
Senior running back John Privitelli was back practicing, but later left the fields after a lengthy chat with Ostrowsky, who said afterwords, there was no story there.
Knoblock, Cotta and Privitelli are all coming back from injuries that ended their season a year ago.
The next practice for NMU is at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The team is set to scrimmage on Thursday of this week.
