8/10/12 NMU football training camp report
August 10, 2012 - Matt Wellens
The Northern Michigan University football team held its second practice of the season and first outdoor practice on Friday outside the Superior Dome. Here are some of the highlights:
— Redshirt freshman quarterback Ryan Morley appears to be the man head coach Chris Ostrowsky is leaning toward as the starter in 2012, however, the coach said he is not ready to make an announcement yet. Senior Cody Scepaniak spent the practice working with the second unit.
— NMU is rotating five different players in at punter currently, including senior place kicker Rockne Belmonte. True freshman Tyler Leightner out of Cadillac is the lone punter listed on the roster.
— Senior running back John Privitelli missed the second half of practice with what appeared to be a leg injury. He missed most of last season with a broken leg.
— Two other Wildcats who missed most of 2011 — senior linebacker and captain Eddie Knoblock and junior running back Casey Cotta — were both on the field Friday practicing in full.
The next practice is Saturday at 7:15 p.m. I'll be back for Sunday's 3:45 p.m. practice and on Monday, the pads go on for the Wildcats.
