Physician lauded for assistance

To the Journal editor:

A few weeks ago during a routine colonoscopy, Dr. Van Popprin discovered a large mass in my husband’s colon. The colon was almost blocked and there was no option except surgery.

Due to other serious health problems, surgery was an issue. The doctor felt it was most likely cancer and it was. He gently told us the bad news, needless to say we were quite upset.

The kindness shown to us by everyone in the endoscopy unit was amazing. It was a bad situation but the hugs and “I am so sorry” was comforting.

Thats to a great surgeon, Dr. Petrin, (my husband) is now cancer free and has recovered nicely.

We are grateful for these kind people at UPHS and for this hospital in our community.
