Dog Dayz supported

To the Journal editor:

The Lake Superior Art Association recently had its inaugural Dog Dayz of Winter Youth Art Exhibition, held at the Marquette Arts and Culture Center during the Upper Peninsula 200 weekend.

All of the elementary grade schoolchildren in Marquette County were invited to participate in the show with a theme of winter, dogs, and animals. We had tremendous support from public, private and home school students, with a large display of colorful fun artwork in a variety of mediums.

Renee Michaud organized the event and deserves our tremendous thanks for her efforts. We also thank our partners Megan Barrett of the U.P. Sled Dog Association and the staff at the MACC.

Thank you to the teachers and students who participated and our special guests at the reception Heather Kendrick, Miss Michigan 2017, and Seamus, the U.P. 200 mascot with his owner.

Prizes were generously donated by Kathi Hanson, U.P. Catholic Credit Union, the UPSDA, The Nook and Cranny Studio Gallery and the V.I.P.S. Artists. The reception had a wonderful turnout, and special thanks to the LSAA members that provided the food.

We plan on keeping this two-week exhibit an annual event at the MACC, and hope to eventually bring back the outdoor adult art displays we once had at Presque Isle.
