Letters to the Editor: Camp New Day U.P. worked well
To the Journal editor:
Camp New Day U.P. had a great week of camp this year. This was our 16th year and the board members all agree that it was a very successful camp.
The counselors and campers were a big part of that success. There are many people and organizations that contributed to the success through donations of time, money, food, and other support, and we would like to thank them all: Keweenaw Bay Indian Community; Escanaba Kiwanis; Greater Ishpeming Pioneer Kiwanis; Holy Innocents Episcopal, Gwinn; St Paul’s Episcopal, Marquette; White Pine Community United Methodist Church; Marquette Prince of Peace Lutheran Church; Church of the Transfiguration, Ironwood; Bethany Lutheran Church, Negaunee; Community Foundation of Marquette County; Marquette Rotary; Marquette West Rotary; Eastwood Nursing Home; St Albans Episcopal, Manistique; Joan Slater, Jim and Margaret Jajich, Liz and Dennis Boe, Marlys Trudgen; Trinity Episcopal Church, Mackinaw Island; Riverside United Methodist; and Hudson’s Grill.
The following local businesses donated food or other supplies for the week of camp: Econo Foods, Huron Mountain Bakery, Farmer Q’s.
Thank you to the following groups who contributed $1,000 or more to CNDUP this year: The Frazier Fund; The Phyllis and Max Reynolds Foundation; St Ignace Area Community Foundation; Marinette & Menominee Area Community Foundation; Community Foundation for Delta County; St John’s Episcopal Church of Iron River; and The Law Firm of Numinen, DeForge, and Mathieu.
Superior Health Foundation selected Camp New Day as one of the recipients to receive $10,000 for the 2017 Annual Gala Awards. The award is given to support projects that align with the Superior Health Foundation’s mission.
The board members of Camp New Day U.P. gratefully thank all of the above for their contributions to our summer camp program. We are very thankful to all who volunteered their time to transport the children to and from camp.
Parents tell us every year that if it weren’t for CNDUP, their children would not be able to go to a summer camp. Without your community support there would be no Camp New Day U.P.
