Letters to the Editor: Voting for Cambensy

To the Journal editor:

Soon, we will be at the polls again. As a district, we need to make sure our voices are heard, so I urge you to get out and vote. That said, I also urge you to read and learn as much as you can about all the candidates on our ballot.

My family and I have done so, and we are supporting objectively, Sara Cambensy for our next state representative.

If I were to describe Sara in one word, that word would be thorough. As a city commissioner in Marquette, she is known for her resolve and her persistence on deep understanding of all issues and diligent exploration prior to decision-making.

Sara is concerned about our well-being in Upper Peninsula. She is currently working toward a doctorate degree at Michigan Tech University in environmental and energy policy, applying that knowledge and expertise to policies that help us to be good stewards of our natural resources while simultaneously creating and retaining the industrial, well-paying, full-time jobs upon which the U.P. has thrived. Such jobs are essential for the health of our small communities.

As an educator, Sara is painfully aware that our public schools are underfunded as compared with other Midwestern schools. She is a strong voice for investing in resources to make sure our schools have the technology and vocational education programs to train our students to be 21st-century learners and skilled laborers.

Sara is a candid advocate for investing in the Upper Peninsula and protecting its residents. She wants to lead efforts to expand the energy grid, lowering our energy bills; to support Medicare expansion so our senior citizens do not end up bankrupt; to make sure we are getting our fair share of tax revenue so our townships and counties do not have to choose between cutting our police and fire services or investing in roads and infrastructure; and to uphold our moral obligations to our local veterans.

I believe Sara is the best candidate. She has proven herself a hard worker with a genuine agenda for investing in the people of the Upper Peninsula. Please vote Aug. 8.
