Lakestate continues to offer great services

To the Journal editor:

Lakestate Industries is a community rehabilitation organization for people with barriers to employment. Their mission is to help people recognize and maximize their abilities, overcome barriers, and reach their highest level of employment and community inclusion.

In July 2013, Lakestate Industries expanded their services to Marquette to help individuals with disabilities gain work and related skills with the ultimate goal being community employment. Lakestate Industries has been providing services in Escanaba for over 40 years and has served the Marquette community for 31/2 years.

What used to be the Varvil Building which was home to an insurance agency, Marquette Meats and Memories Restaurant is now a wonderful work environment for over 90 people with disabilities.

We offer real work opportunities such as confidential shredding, envelope stuffing, making “Yooper Firestarters” as well as janitorial and groundskeeping jobs. We are always looking for additional work opportunities and would certainly entertain the idea of expanding into another line of business. Our goal is to find new ways to challenge our people and encourage their personal growth.

Not only does the opportunity to work give folks a source of income, it gives them a sense of pride and purpose.

We are 2.2 miles past the U.S. 41-M-28 intersection on the right, next to the Chocolay Township Lions Baseball Field. We invite you to come for a tour as well as check out our new Rustic Room — a little showroom of our furniture, home decor and our Famous Yooper Firestarters. Check out our website and on-line store at www.lakestateindustries.org.

We are providing a very valuable service to individuals with disabilities in Marquette county, but we need your help. Consequently, we are having our Annual Fund Campaign to help us continue serving individuals with disabilities as well as grow the program. Our goal is to raise $50,000 to help us operate the program.

We ask our community to help us with a gift which can be mailed in the blue envelope found in Saturday’s newspaper. Please give from your heart and consider all the people you will be assisting with your donation.

Please feel free to donate unwanted candle wax and toilet paper rolls as well. Please always consider Lakestate Industries in your estate planning and will.

Lakestate Industries will continue to grow and be a part of the Marquette community for many years with your generous help and support.
