Letter riled reader

To the Journal editor:

“Liberals should stop complaining” Really? This letter … in the Nov. 23 is a string of rude, insulting comments that are completely uncalled for. Of course all points of view have a right to be presented, but not using this “scream speech” that makes no reasoned argument, he just blasts away.

With a majority of voters in Marquette County supporting Clinton, it is more than insensitive to many, many community members who are just going about their daily lives as usual.

But that is not enough for (the writer). He would like everyone to just: “Just shut up, wipe your tears, and put on some clean (diapers).” I would have thought the The Mining Journal would be more sensitive to all its readers, than to approve this type of letter.

The Journal needs to set higher standards for publication of its Letters to the Editor. Ironically, in the Journal’s Opinion in the same issue they state: “We want Marquette to remain a safe and open community.” Allowing letters of this inciteful nature endangers exactly that open dialogue and expression, at the very least.

Even more ironic, both were published in the edition before Thanksgiving.

Happy holidays.
