Today a day to remember sacrifices

To the Journal editor:

In every generation, the world has produced enemies of human freedom. They have attacked America because we are freedom’s home and defenders. The commitment of our fathers is now the calling of our time.

As we embrace and celebrate Veteran’s Day, we pay tribute to and remember the American men and women who served in our nation’s armed forces throughout history.

Through their sacrifices, they have purchased for us the privileges of freedom, democracy, and unmatched opportunity that we enjoy in the United States today.

They have set the conditions for the United States’ place as a global leader, with the world’s strongest economy and the most respected and feared military in the world. Remember those who have paid the ultimate price when you wrap yourself in the blessings of liberty.

Today, soldiers build upon the legacy established by veterans who have gone before. From the first battle of the American Revolution to our ongoing war against terrorism, in conflicts around the globe and in humanitarian missions at home and abroad that have saved countless lives.

Soldiers have provided the sword and shield that protects our nation. They continue to do so today-over 250,000 soldiers deployed and forward stationed in more than 120 countries around the world.

Regardless if they were man or woman or have served in conflict, Veterans have stood ready, waiting for our nation’s call to duty. I once read, “A Veteran is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to “USA” for an amount of “Up To & Including My Life.”

It is my honor to stand beside these brave men and women who have served our nation.
