Spell out name
To the Journal editor:
I enjoyed the Chamber Chat column authored by Ashley Geist in Monday’s Mining Journal. It’s heartening to see local students benefiting from an education at a local university which has prepared them to launch a career in the Upper Peninsula.
However, as a career news writer and public relations professional, I would like to point out one thing: not everyone in the U.P. is from the U.P.
Although I love the U.P., I spend much of the year in Tennessee and was unsure what GINCC stood for in the first paragraph of the article.
One of the standard rules of journalism is to spell out the name of an organization the first time it appears in a story, rather than starting with a series of initials.
