Show your support today at Relay for Life

Young adults are often described with all sorts of unflattering adjectives: lazy, unaware, self-centered, party machines … most of which are not just unflattering but also untrue and don’t apply to the people of that age group we know.

A group of Northern Michigan University students will demonstrate just how energetic, aware and giving to others they are when Relay for Life kicks off at 3 p.m. today in the Vandament Arena of the Physical Education and Instructional Facility on the NMU campus.

For 12 hours, these kind, compassionate young women and men will walk laps around the arena to show their solidarity with those who are fighting cancer and those who have beaten this dreadful disease. And they also honor those whose battles were not successful.

The goal is to raise funds for the American Cancer Society’s war on cancer, a worthy cause indeed.

Relay organizers invite everyone to go to Vandament to help the community of Marquette honor those touched in some way by cancer, which really is everyone. People are invited to drop in to walk the track, eat delicious food, play games and win prizes.

For more information about the event or how to register as a survivor, visit the event’s Facebook page or email nmurelayforlife@gmail.com.

In a world filled with troubling events and much sadness, if you wonder where all the good people have gone, we suggest stopping at the Vandament today and checking out a large bunch of great young folks.
