Holiday Homecoming planned in Marquette

To the Journal editor:

This season the Marquette Area Public School Education Foundation is hosting the sixth annual Holiday Homecoming on Tuesday, Dec. 26.

If you are here over the holidays, the Education Foundation invites you to visit with friends and schoolmates at Vango’s from 6-8 p.m. We hold this event every year for our friends in the Marquette community including recent grads, alumni of all city high schools, Marquette Senior High School, Marquette Alternative High, J.D. Pearce, Bishop Baraga Central, Graveraet, all Marquette Area Pubpic Schools teachers and staff, past and present.

This is our way to thank those who have supported this foundation and Marquette students all year.

In 2018 the MAPS Foundation has set an incredible goal of providing a scholarship for every Marquette graduate who applies for one. That’s right, no rejection letters to our deserving students. You can help us reach that goal.

To read more about the foundation and our scholarship program go to our website mapsseducationfoundation.weebly.com.

Don’t forget to mark your calendars. What better place to gather and meet friends for the holidays than at Vango’s?

The party starts at 6 p.m., cash bar, we provide finger foods and lots of holiday spirit. Please stop in and enjoy the evening with us, all are welcome.

Underpass, or no underpass

To the Journal editor:

Please attend the 6:30 p.m., Marquette Charter Township’s Board meeting, on Tuesday. Letters and emails regarding the proposed underpass are also helpful. Your support is needed and will make a difference.

The Marquette Township Board has split the Michigan Department of Transportation’s resolution into two parts. One regarding lighting and one the underpass. The future of both are to be considered Tuesday.

If you have any interest in making the U.S. 41 corridor safer, please let the Marquette Township Board know. There will not be another opportunity to have an underpass at the busiest intersection in the Upper Peninsula.
