Yoopers will be pulling for Pats in tournament game

Another Saturday, another downstate trip for the Westwood High School football faithful.

The Patriots will be playing for a Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 7 district title when they take on the Lake City Trojans at 1 p.m. Saturday in Lake City.

Westwood advanced to the district final by pummeling the Elk Rapids Elks 30-0 last weekend.

The Patriots already have earned the best record in school history and will be looking to continue their winning ways by bringing the district trophy back to the Upper Peninsula.

We know Yoopers will be pulling for WHS as its journey advances. The Patriots are playing good football and players are gaining individual honors as well as team honors.

But more than that, by all accounts, head coach Scott Syrjala has a fine bunch of gentlemen on the team. The Patriots are winners, not just because they triumph on the field, but because of the way they conduct themselves on and off the gridiron.

We hope all our readers in Superiorland back the Patriots as they head back to lower Michigan for a chance at taking another step toward Ford Field in Detroit, where the MHSAA finals will take place Thanksgiving weekend.

U.P. Power!
