Zdunek a solid choice to continue as YMCA director
Although it came as no particular surprise, the board that oversees the YMCA in Marquette County voted Monday to make Jenna Zdunek permanent executive director.
Zdunek, who has worked for the YMCA for 15 years, had served as interim director for much of 2016, after the previous director departed amid reports of alleged financial issues.
The challenge Zdunek faced and continues to face, was all but overwhelming. The organization was mired in red ink, bills were due and lawyers were circling. (Ultimately two lawsuits were filed).
Zdunek is largely credited with heading up a successful campaign to keep the Y afloat. Efforts have reportedly reduced the Y’s $5 million debt significantly and stabilized operations
“We feel that Jenna has exemplified some great leadership over the last eight to 10 months,” said board President and founding member Michele Butler. “And as a board, we felt that it was time to offer Jenna that position if she was so inclined.”
We agree with and support the board’s decision in making Zdunek interim position permanent. She has been the steady hand on the YMCA tiller as the organization navigated some very troubling waters.
We look forward to a bright future for the YMCA of Marquette County.
