Cheer Club still seeking donations to help kids, families

December is zipping by and so is the opportunity to participate in The Mining Journal Cheer Club, which brings Christmas to the homes of many families in our local communities.

The Cheer Club is a joint effort between the Journal, the Salvation Army, and St. Vincent de Paul to provide toys to local children and families in need.

Toys and other gifts can be dropped off at The Mining Journal’s Marquette and Ishpeming Offices, the Marquette and Ishpeming Salvation Army locations, and the St. Vincent de Paul in Marquette. UP Health System-Bell, ACE Hardware in Gwinn, and the Marquette Township Hall will also accept donations for the Cheer Club.

Gifts should be unwrapped and appropriate for ages up to 14 years.

Monetary gifts, which will be used to provide Christmas items to these families, are gladly accepted as well.

This is the 38th annual Cheer Club and for all those years, the people of the central Upper Peninsula have been most generous in helping to provide some Christmas joy to needy families in our area.

We have faith readers will respond again in 2016 to help make sure every child in our area has something under the tree this Christmas time.

We thank those who have already donated and encourage those who are considering becoming a part of the effort to do so soon.
