Marquette’s time in the spotlight is here, let’s celebrate

AIt’s finally here: the Kraft Hockeyville USA game is tonight.

Many activities have led up to the main event, a preseason game featuring the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes and Buffalo Sabres at 7 tonight at Lakeview Arena.

The game will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network, giving people from all around the country the chance to see the thousands of hockey fans who were lucky enough to get tickets to the contest.

They will also see Lakeview Arena showcased. The arena has been undergoing upgrades thanks to the $150,000 prize that came with being named 2016 Kraft Hockeyville USA.

From the 5K run/walk Saturday morning to a gala Saturday night, from youth hockey clinics to a fun fair at the Superior Dome attended by Lord Stanley’s Cup itself plus a parade Monday night, Hockeyville has brought fun and excitement to the community.

It also has been a charitable endeavor, including a Stop Hunger Now food packing event involving hundreds of young people at Marquette Senior High School Monday.

The game tonight is indeed the cherry on top of a sundae of thrills.

After becoming a finalist in the competition to be named Hockeyville, communities were judged on three criteria: passion for hockey, creativity and originality, and community spirit.

We believe Marquette has shown those things in grand style leading up to the naming of the winner April 30 and in wonderful fashion in the months since.

We hope tonight’s crowd is enthusiastic and LOUD. Let’s take advantage of the national spotlight and prove winning the title was well deserved.

Welcome to all our visitors from the league, from the network and from all over the state. Tonight we hope you will experience 2016 Kraft Hockeyville USA shining in its time in the spotlight.
