Peter Farm

NEGAUNEE, MI – Peter D. Farm, age 80, of Negaunee and former Ishpeming resident passed away Friday March 29, 2019 at UP Health System Bell following a brief illness.

Peter was born October 16, 1938 in Ishpeming to Woodrow and Miriam (Kauppanen) Farm. He graduated from Ishpeming High School and from Michigan Technological University with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Physics.

Pete worked in Milwaukee for General Motors for 6 years and later worked at the Cleveland Cliffs Research Lab for 32 years, retiring in 1999. He specialized in nuclear on-line analysis systems.

Pete was a life member of the Ishpeming ELKS Lodge #447 and Ishpeming Ski Club. He was the head marker for many years at the annual ski jumping tournament at Suicide Hill. Pete and Carol enjoyed traveling, with many trips to Las Vegas, as well as to foreign countries: Greece, Norway, Italy, England, Sweden and Finland. Locally they attended many NMU hockey and football games. Every August they would make trips to watch the ISC softball tournaments throughout the United States. As a big sports fan, Pete and Carol attended 2 US Open Tennis Tournaments in New York and would attend PGA Tour Events. He was a former member of the Wawonowin Country Club where he enjoyed golfing. Pete was an avid reader especially on the topic of the Civil War.

He also played in the Ishpeming Cribbage League for the Venice for many years.

Pete is survived by his wife of 27 years, Carol (Sippola) Farm, a brother Dennis (Norma) Farm of Las Vegas, NV, a sister Karen (Rainer) Farm of Mount Prospect, IL, and a brother-in-law Dennis (Pat) Sippola of Ishpeming, plus special nieces, nephews and cousins. Pete will be greatly missed by his wife, family and many friends.

A private graveside service will be held at the Ishpeming Cemetery at a later date.
