Todd James Honch

MARQUETTE, MI – Todd James Honch, age 54, of Marquette, passed away Thursday evening, January 31, 2019, in the Intensive Care Unit at UP Health System – Marquette, with his parents at his side.

Todd was born November 30, 1964, in Allegan, Michigan, only child of Dennis and Patricia (Hurdelbrink) Honch. He was raised and lived in both Lower and Upper Michigan. He attended pre and elementary school in Ann Arbor and Mt Pleasant, middle and high school in Grand Blanc, graduating in 1984. Music was in his soul. He became a drummer and played in the high school marching and jazz bands. After graduation, he joined Celebrate, a Lutheran musical group, and traveled the USA for a year. When he returned, he studied music at Mott Community College, Flint, and was associated with the Flint Institute of Music.

Todd moved to Marquette with his parents in 1987. He attended Northern Michigan University and played in the NMU marching, jazz, and pep bands, Marquette City Band, and Ishpeming Blue Notes Drum and Bugle Corps. He delivered newspapers for the Mining Journal for 20 years. Besides music, he enjoyed the outdoors, riding his bike, traveling the USA with his dad via motorcycle and convertible sports car, and attending nearly all NMU athletic events.

Todd is survived by his parents, maternal aunt Mary (Art) Hoffman of Ludington, MI, paternal aunt Connie Perry of Kansas City, KS, and many cousins throughout the USA and Europe, NMU athletes, neighbors, customers, and his very best friend Lindsay Griffith.

He was preceded in death by paternal and maternal grandparents and paternal aunt Mary Anne (Curt) Blohm of Bismarck, ND.

Friends may call at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Tuesday, February 12, beginning at 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. Rev. Chad Ott, pastor, will officiate. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Interment will be made in the Park Cemetery.
