Lawrence Lancour

MARQUETTE, MI – Lawrence E. Lancour, age 80, of Marquette, entered eternal life Sunday, September 9, 2018, in the loving care of his family.

Born December 11, 1937, in Marquette, a son of Lawrence Edward and Florence (Vadnais) Lancour, he was a lifelong resident and attended the Marquette area schools. A roofer by trade, he spent 30 years as a member of the local laborers union. Larry’s family meant the world to him and he was always in his comfort zone when surrounded by his family, especially the grandkids. A sports fan, he enjoyed watching hockey, football, and baseball, and especially loved to watch his grandchildren in their sporting events. He also was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved to mentor his grandkids with stories and tips for success. A devoted husband, he loved his wife’s cooking and also proclaimed himself to be the best cribbage and Euchre player in the world to those who would listen and possibly believe. He and JoAnn also enjoyed trips to Ohio to visit his cousins.

Survivors include his wife JoAnn (Hawkins) Lancour, whom he married February 14, 1956; his children, Lawrence “Tinker” (Sandy) Lancour of Marquette, Dawn (Bob) Ervin of Sterling Heights, Mike “Lori” Lancour of Palmer, Kenny (Suzie) Lancour of Marquette, and Nancy (Dr. Ken) Onuoha of East Lansing; 16 grandchildren; Melissa (Mark) Birler, April (Jason) Battani, Amber (Andrew) Buckmaster, Andrew (Ally) Lancour, Katie (Brian) Della Mora, Amanda (Aaron) Adriano, Brad Ervin, Allen Lancour, David (Karli) Lancour, Jacquelyn (Ryan) Bruner, Aaron Lancour, Benjamin Ford, Paula Onuoha, Alicia Lancour, Makeila Onuoha and Zachary Lancour; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his son, Lloyd Lancour; a grandson, Jordan Ford; his two brothers, James and Lloyd Lancour; his sister, Barbara Cass; and sisters-in-law, Paula Lancour and Nancy Morris.

Friends may call at the Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home on Friday, September 14, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm and on Saturday, September 15, at St. Christopher Catholic Church beginning at 10:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Christopher Catholic Church on Saturday, September 15, at 11:00 am with Rev. Greg Heikkala, pastor, as celebrant. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
