Dale P. Kangas

NEGAUNEE, MI – Dale Peter Kangas, 72, of the Everett St. Apartments in Negaunee, passed away peacefully at his home last week.

Dale was born July 28, 1945 in Ishpeming to Lauri and Jean (Hendrickson) Kangas and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of ’63. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam War. He also served in the United States Air Force for many years after his service in the Navy.

Following his many years of service to his country, Dale was employed as a bus driver for Negaunee Public Schools.

Mr. Kangas was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he previously sang in the church choir. He was also very active in the Negaunee Eagles, Negaunee All Sports Booster Club and was a life member of V.A. Romo Post #3165, Negaunee VFW.

In his spare time, Dale enjoyed classic movies, especially old war and westerns. He was a dedicated fan of the Negaunee Miners, being a member of the chain gang for numerous years, and was an avid Green Bay Packers and Detroit Tigers fan. Dale also enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino.

Surviving are his daughter, Tracey (Charlie) Scott of Republic; son, William (Shanda) Bickford of Tennessee; three grandchildren: Sara and Caleb Hammar and David Bickford; his brother, Douglas (Christie) Kangas of Iowa; his sister, Barbara (Jim) Racine of Ishpeming; and nieces and nephews: Christopher (Marcia) Kangas and family, Timothy (Amy) Kangas and family, Jeanne Racine, Kimberly Racine and special great-niece, Kelsey, and Todd Racine and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his loving wife, Carolyn ‘Jeannie’ Kangas in June of 2014.

Memorial services will be held at 11 am on Friday, July 13 at the Koskey Funeral Home with Rev. D. Michael Carriere officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:30 am until the time of services at 11 am at the funeral home on Friday, and also at a luncheon reception immediately following at the Negaunee Eagles Club. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Dale’s memory to the Negaunee VFW or the Negaunee All Sports Booster Club.
