Beatrice M. ‘Bea’ Smith
ST. CLOUD, FL – MARQUETTE, MI – Beatrice M. “Bea” Smith, age 84, of St. Cloud, Florida and Marquette, entered eternal life Sunday, April 22, 2018, with her loving family, spanning five generations, at her side.
Born in Saginaw, Michigan, on October 23, 1933, Bea was raised in the Saginaw area in the winter and Moran during the summers. In 1948, Bea was united in marriage to Buryl Smith, and together the couple made their home in the Palmer-Suomi area where they raised nine children. Family was everything to Bea and she enjoyed her roles as wife, mother, and homemaker. Caring and compassionate, she was well suited to her working career in health care as a nurses aide, both in the hospital and local nursing home settings. In her leisure moments, she especially enjoyed time spent with family, going to the beach, fishing, playing bingo, doing a little gambling, and traveling. She was a member of the Shelter Cove Community in St. Cloud, Florida, where she resided every winter since 2001.
Bea is survived by seven children, Rita (John) Marshall of Deerton, Buryl (Penny) Smith, Jr. of Palmer, Neva (Jerry) Hill of Goose Lake, Sally Dorr of St. Cloud, FL, Timothy (Barb) Smith of Marquette, Jo Ann (John) de Bidart of Iron Mountain, and Michael (Kerry) Smith of Cape Fair, MS; a son-in-law, Roy McMichael of Titusville, FL; and 74 grand, great, and great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Buryl in 2003; an infant son, Jeffrey in 1958; a daughter, Sharon McMichael in 2015, and a son-in-law, Matt Dorr.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home, Marquette, on Wednesday, May 30, beginning at 4:00 pm until the time of service at 6:00 pm. Rev. Leon Jarvis will preside. A reception will follow in the reception room located at the funeral home.
