ISHPEMING, MI – Shirley Ann Coole Guibord Mayotte, age 91 of 200 Saginaw St. Ishpeming, MI passed away on Tuesday March 13, 2018 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility.

Shirley was born January 10, 1927, to Annette Tyni Coole Bjork and John Coole. She attended Ishpeming High School graduating in 1944. She married Jerome J. Guibord on January 10, 1948, who died in May 1958. Shirley was remarried July 1, 1963 to William A. Mayotte who passed away in May 2001.

Shirley’s working career consisted of a bookkeeper for Michigan Gas and Electric, manager of Gately’s Women’s Dept, and a sales clerk for Stein’s Clothing, all in Ishpeming. Shirley was active with the Business and Professionals Women’s group in Ishpeming and was the president of Mather Nursing Home Auxiliary for 25 years.

Shirley loved spending time with her family, especially at their camp on Helen Lake in the summer months. She hosted many family and friend gatherings during that time. In her retirement years, she and her husband wintered in Florida. She also enjoyed cooking and baking, especially at Christmas time where she would spend days baking 25 to 30 varieties of bake goods, only to give most of it away to family and friends.

Shirley is survived by her two children: Gary Guibord of Ishpeming, and his daughter Aubree Bianco-Guibord (Austin Mannering) of DePere, WI; Yvonne (Wayne) Nurmi of Ishpeming and their children: Susan (Charlie) Nickel and their two sons John and Ryan of Suamico, WI; and Michael (Christine) Nurmi and their children Mattie, Niila and Caeden of Ishpeming, also her two step-children: William John Mayotte of Florida and his daughter Angela (Eddie) Hughes and their children, Colton, Brystal and Kylee, and Rosemarie Anderson of Chassell and her children John (Patti) Anderson and their children, Aubry and Rylan, and Lisa Anderson of Chassell, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father Peter Bjork, a brother Warren Bjork, and her two husbands.

Shirley’s family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00 am-1:00 pm on Friday March 16, 2018 (St. Urho’s Day) at Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming where funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm with Rev. Lauri O. Maki officiating. Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.

A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.

Pallbearers will be Michael Nurmi, Wayne Nurmi, Charlie Nickel, John Nickel and Ryan Nickel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a charity of one’s choice in memory of Shirley.
