RONALD KORPI

ISHPEMING, MI – Ronald M. Korpi, age 78 of 2095 Southwood Dr., Tilden Twp., passed away on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017 at the Marquette Co Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming where he had resided since Dec. 18th.

Ron was born January 4, 1939 in Ishpeming the son of the late Waino S. and Senia W. (Franti) Korpi. He was a graduate of the National Mine High School, Class of 1957. Ron began his career with CCI following his graduation. He then served in the United States Army from 1959-1961 having been stationed in Alaska. Ron returned to Ishpeming following his honorary discharge and was again employed by CCI. He retired as a plant repairman from the Tilden Mine in 2000 following 40 + years with the company.

Ron was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church. In his younger years he enjoyed playing in the local slow-pitch softball league as a pitcher for the Hi-Lo Club. Ron also enjoyed vegetable gardening, hunting, fishing, vacationing which included a couple of cruises.

Survivors include his sisters – Donna (Earl) Knutson and Marlene Anderson both of Ishpeming, his godchild Krista Wealton, along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Gail Korpi on Sept. 12, 2011, along with brothers Norman, Melvin, Calvin and Roy Korpi.

The family will greet relatives and friends from Noon – 1:00pm on Friday, December 29, 2017 at the Bethel Lutheran Church. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at the Bethel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate. Military honors will be accorded by the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter #380. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
