MARQUETTE, MI – Barbara Ann Gartner, 80, of Marquette, passed away Saturday morning, November 25, 2017 at her home, surrounded by loving family.

Barb was born October 8, 1937 in Cincinnati, Ohio, a daughter of the late John Richard and Anna Rose (Wurzbacher) McNally. She was a graduate of the former St. Marian Catholic High School in Cincinnati. She taught third grade at Guardian Angels School in 1957-58.

On June 14, 1958 Barbara married Ronald J. Gartner at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Cincinnati. She became a full time housewife and mother for many years. She and her husband made their home in Marquette, MI in 1979 where Ron was employed. She was employed by F.W. Woolworth and then Campus Pharmacy here in Marquette until she retired.

She was an active member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Marquette. She also served on the Habitat for Humanity board for many years.

Her hobbies and interests included genealogy, riverboats (Tall Ships) in Cincinnati, reading history books especially about the Civil War and Irish History, jazz music, dance, sewing, canning, and making jam. She had a lifetime love of learning and most importantly, spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Ron Gartner of Marquette; seven children, David (Lisa) Gartner of Prescott, AZ, Elizabeth (Robert) Howe of Marquette, Kathleen Phillips of Charlevoix, MI, William (Tara) Gartner of Escanaba, MI, Margaret (Scott) Doerflein of Cincinnati, OH, Jeannine (Frank) Moore of Wake Forest, NC, and Lawrence Gartner of San Diego, CA; 17 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding her in death besides her parents, John Richard McNally Jr. (brother) and his wife, Virginia McNally; Ellen Landers (sister) and her husband, Robert Landers; Enika Gartner (daughter-in-law) and Kenneth Phillips (son-in-law).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 4th at 2 p.m. in St. Michael Catholic Church with the Rev. Greg Heikkala officiating. The Gartner family will greet relatives and friends beginning at 12 noon until the time of the mass in the church.

Pallbearers will be Dave, Bill, Nick and Pat Gartner, Scott Doerflein, Bob Howe, and James Richards.
